Stirring Up Trouble (The Rosewood Series, #3) by Andrea Laurence
When a prim and proper baker and a laid-back bartender have a neighborly disagreement that gets them both in trouble with the law, a sweet reconciliation is stirred up in the playful third romance in Andrea Laurence’s sexy Rosewood series.
Maddie’s life is perfectly sweet. Her bakery’s tasty treats are rising to the top of every must-have list in town, and her commute is just a block away by foot. She loves everything about her little downtown Victorian bungalow—except for her unbearably noisy neighbor, Woody’s. The bar’s obnoxious and sexy owner, Emmett, seems to live to aggravate Maddie. But he mostly thinks she could use a stiff drink to dislodge the stick up her ass. He’s just trying to run his business. Bars stay open late, they play music, they serve alcohol. If she doesn’t like it, why did she buy a house across the street?
When Maddie and Emmett’s battle lands them in front of the local judge, they’re ordered to do several weeks of community service cleaning parks and painting over graffiti. As they scrub away the latest works of art by the town’s anonymous “Penis Picasso,” the baker and the bartender slowly begin to see there’s more to each other than meets the eye. So what happens if they wave the white flag and surrender into each other’s arms?
This was my first introduction to Andrea Laurence and the world of Rosewood, and I can tell you I am headed to find the first two books in this series to add to my Kindle!
I started this book and I worried that I wouldn’t be able to continue it, as the heroine, Maddie was just so horrible and she made me so angry with her better than everyone attitude. However, I knew this was a love story and that she must do a complete change in order for the love in the story to happen. Also I immediately loved the character of Emmett (I mean how could you NOT?!). The story line moved along at a good speed and by the middle of the book I began to see Maddie change and I fell in deep with the book and had a hard time putting it down. I loved seeing Maddie change and Andrea Laurence did a fabulous job of building realistic changes within her in a reasonable amount of time so that you actually got to see Maddie grow, it wasn’t just an overnight I am changed character, there was real growth and struggle for Maddie. That is what helped to endure her to me and really root for her by the end of the story. I have to compliment the chemistry of the main characters, you could feel the electricity between Maddie and Emmett, as well as read it, their arguments were verbal foreplay! And who doesn’t love a story about opposites attract? Let’s talk about the supporting characters and setting of the story. The whole cast of characters truly helped build this story to its wonderfulness, and the little southern town had so much charm it made me want to up and move there into a big Victorian home.
This is the third book in this series, but can be read as a standalone book. However, you will want to go back and read the first two as well, I can’t wait to learn more about Blake & Ivy and Grant & Pepper!
Overall, Stirring Up Trouble was a fun read with good writing enhanced by an enjoyable story line and lovable characters!
