Book Review: The Crepes of Wrath by Sarah Fox ~ Great Escapes Book Tour

When Marley McKinney’s aging cousin, Jimmy, is hospitalized with pneumonia, she agrees to help run his pancake house while he recovers. With its rustic interior and syrupy scent, the Flip Side Pancake House is just as she pictured it—and the surly chef is a wizard with crêpes. Marley expects to spend a leisurely week or two in Wildwood Cove, the quaint, coastal community where she used to spend her summers, but then Cousin Jimmy is found murdered, sprawled on the rocks beneath a nearby cliff.

After she stumbles across evidence of stolen goods in Jimmy’s workshop, Marley is determined to find out what’s really going on in the not-so-quiet town of Wildwood Cove. With help from her childhood crush and her adopted cat, Flapjack, Marley sinks her teeth into the investigation. But if she’s not careful, she’s going to get burned by a killer who’s only interested in serving up trouble.

This is the first book in a new series and I must say, WOW, what an introduction! I was immediately drawn into the story by the believability of the characters and I was instantly drawn to Marley, who was an air of vulnerability surrounded by strength. The whole cast is so well written and down-to-earth. And can we just talk about Flapjack? I love a good kitty sidekick! The entire cast really elevated the story, which is fabulously written as well. The plot is handled well with plenty of suspects without being confusing. I could easily see myself walking into The Flip Side pancake restaurant for some churro waffles! I easily craved all of the wonderful pancakes and waffles talked about the story, so I was very happy to get to the end of the story to find some delicious recipes waiting for me! Overall, this was a fun, fast read and an easy book to recommend reading! I can’t wait until the next book in the series, For Whom the Bread Rolls, which you will find a snippet of at the end of the book!

Discovering Harmony is  the second book of the fabulous series, the Wishing Well, Texas books and this series is definitely not disappointing! This is another red-hot series based on friendship into love! I can’t say it enough, the Melanie Shawn duo amazes with every book they write and they just keep getting better and better! I think this is my favorite in the series, which is saying something because I loved the other two as well. This book can be read as a stand-alone, however you will want to start at the beginning and fall in love with each character couple! Speaking of characters, Harmony and Hudson are a really fun couple to follow, they are so different but somehow the saying “opposites attract”, really does fit. I love the verbal sparring they do and their chemistry is off the charts sizzling! But the thing I love the most about Melanie’s books are the story lines, these books are about much more than sex and she proves it with every book she turns out. The stories are fully-developed and well thought out and keep me coming back for more because I want to know how my favorite characters are doing. There is always plenty of character updates thrown into the story to keep me happy. All of Melanie’s books have the perfect blend of romance, sex and plot! This book is another awesome read and perfect for a quick red-hot read!

NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn is the writing team of sister duo Melanie and Shawna. Originally from Northern California, they both migrated south and now call So Cal their home. Growing up, Melanie constantly had her head in a book and was always working on short stories, manuscripts, plays and poetry. Shawna always loved romance in any form – movie, song or literary. If it was a love story with a happy ending, Shawna was all about it! She proudly acknowledges that she is a romanceaholic. They have joined forces to create a world where true love and happily ever after always has a sexy twist!

Book Spotlight: Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich & Phoef Sutton

Curious_GR_160x600

Janet Evanovich, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, teams up with Emmy-winning writer Phoef Sutton for a brand-new series of thrillers featuring the invincible and incompatible pairing of Knight and Moon.

Emerson Knight is introverted, eccentric, and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he’s also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he’d probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with mega-bank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

What starts off as an inquiry about missing bank funds in the Knight account leads to inquiries about a missing man, missing gold, and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, D.C., and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed. A plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon can stop it.

This is my first read of Terrie Farley Moran, and while I slugged my way through the first third of the book, I am glad I stuck with it because the last two-thirds were fabulous! I really enjoyed reading about the tourist town of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida and all of the interesting people that surround Sassy and Bridgy (love the unique names) in their cafe, Read Em and Eat. The characters were fabulous and well written and I can’t wait to get to know them better when I go back and read the first two books in the series, especially Ophie. I have a new fondness for her and her ability to totter around on such high heels!. The mystery to be solved was a good one and I admit it had me guessing right till then end. Overall, Read to Death is a great novel with a fun storyline and even better characters! Oh and don’t miss out on the yummy recipes waiting in the back of the book!

Book Review: A Seal’s Vow by Cora Seton

When Nora leaves her job as a school teacher to open a Jane Austen Bed and Breakfast with her friends—and finally get a chance to write her novel—she’s relieved to escape the escalating threats of violence from an unknown student stalker, and more than a little interested in the Navy SEAL who’s after her heart. But when trouble starts stalking her at Chance Creek, Nora begins to wonder if she’s left her past behind after all.

Can Clay and Nora find a way to be together when everything is trying to tear them apart?

The premise for the “Seals of Chance Creek” series is fun, a group of four Seal friends that want to build a sustainable community, meet up with Nora and her friends that want to live a simple Jane Austin lifestyle and focus on this aspiring talent, throw in a TV reality show and the premise that 10 men have to be married in a year and you end up with some fast-paced and enjoyable love stories!

Like all of the other books that Cora Seton writes,  The Seals of Chance Creek is another successful series! Once I started this book I didn’t want to put it down and ended up reading it the same day I received it. Like all of Cora Seton’s books, this story makes you pull for the characters and root for them to make it to their happily ever after. In all of Cora Seton’s book the characters are well developed and the imagery that runs through the books makes you want to jump a plane and make way for Montana. Luckily for me, I live in Montana and I can attest that everything is right on! This book particularly moved me through so many different emotions, there was laughter, fear, extreme sadness that brought on tears, and love, boy was there love! Great job on another wonderful book and addition to the Seals of Chance Creek series! I can’t wait to take another visit back to Chance Creek and to see who is up next to get married! Who draws the next short straw?

First of all, how have I gone this long and not read any of the books in this series? I mean really? To say that I loved this book would be an understatement. I was hooked from the first page and didn’t put it down until I finished the very last page…and then I jumped over to Amazon and one-clicked the other six books in the series. I seriously love the premise of this book, but I am a sucker for any story that combines coffee and books. I really enjoyed reading about the tourist town of South Cove, California and all of the interesting people that make the town unique. I especially loved the names of the businesses, they were so fun and catchy! The characters were fabulous and well written and I can’t wait to get to know them better. The mystery to be solved was a good one and I admit it had me guessing right till then end. Overall, Tea Cups and Carnage is a great novel with a fun storyline! It is definitely a don’t miss!
